Bristol City have added to their squad by signing forward Sinclair Armstrong from Queens Park Rangers. The 21-year-old has committed to a four-year contract at Ashton Gate, extending until the summer of 2028.

The Republic of Ireland international advanced through the youth system at Shamrock Rovers before joining QPR in Autumn 2020. He debuted for the Rs at the start of the 2022/23 season and made 40 appearances across all competitions last season.

Expressing his excitement about the move, Armstrong remarked, "I feel proud to have this opportunity and to come to this big club. I’m looking forward to growing and being with the boys and I can’t wait for the matches to come up."

Armstrong believes his unique playing style will benefit the team. "I think I can make a very big impact. I bring something different and I’m a player that comes short into feet, holds it up, runs in-behind, and scores goals," he added. "I’ve learned a lot about myself, and being here hopefully I can take it to the next level."

Head Coach Liam Manning highlighted Armstrong's appeal to multiple clubs and praised his attributes. "It is no secret Sinclair was sought after by several clubs. His strength and physicality, along with a desire to compete and work, will be beneficial to our squad. He has a good amount of Championship experience for someone so young, and we are looking forward to seeing him showcase his ability in a City shirt."

Armstrong signed for the Hoops in 2017 and was top scorer with the Rovers under-15 side that was then managed by current Shels boss Damien Duff.

He made his debut with Rovers’ first team as a 15-year-old substitute in August 2018 in the FAI Cup away to Drogheda United - that was his only appearance with Stephen Bradley’s side.

He played six times in the First Division for the Shamrock Rovers II side in 2020.

Last year he made his senior international debut off the bench for Ireland in the EURO 2024 qualifier against the Netherlands in Dublin.

Shamrock Rovers would have received a bonus from QPR had he started a senior competitive international rather than coming off the bench but having had a 25% sell on clause included when selling him to QPR, as reported in the Irish Independent, Rovers are now due around €700,000 after the transfer of the 21-year-old to Bristol City.
