Dunne certainly rates him very highly and is pleased to have convinced the defender to stick around for the next couple of years. And his extension may just be the first of many as the club are keen to move forward with their best youngsters.

"I'm delighted that Stephen has committed his future to the club. Young, talented players like Stephen are the future of this club and are very important as we work to build a strong club here," said Dunne.

"Stephen has performed well since the start of the season, and he deserves to be rewarded for his performances, so I am very pleased with this development.

"While our focus at the start of the season had to be on putting a team together at extremely short notice, as a club our focus is now turning to next season and beyond. I hope that other players will follow in Stephen's footsteps and also commit their futures to the club."
