Aston Villa have secured the return of winger Jaden Philogene from Hull City.

Philogene, a graduate of Aston Villa’s Academy at Bodymoor Heath, first debuted for the senior team in 2021. His journey included loan spells at Stoke City and Cardiff City.

The 22-year-old winger impressed during his time at Hull City, scoring 12 goals in the Championship last season. His performance caught the eye of Villa’s manager, Unai Emery, leading to his re-signing.

Reflecting on his return, Philogene shared his excitement: “It feels amazing, it’s like I’m back at home.”

Philogene had been part of Villa’s pre-season tour in the USA in the summer of 2023. Emery assured him of opportunities in the upcoming season: “Unai spoke to me face-to-face and we had a very good conversation about my playing time. He said I did well when I was here in pre-season last year and that I’m going to get chances this time. It also depends on me and how I play.”

During his initial stint at Villa, Philogene made six appearances, including his senior debut against Tottenham Hotspur in May 2021. His development was furthered by his time with England Under-21s, scoring three goals in four caps.

Philogene is eager to make an impact at Villa Park: “It’s the latest chapter in my Villa journey and hopefully I can play my best, get game time and do it in front of the fans. What I did at Hull, I want to do the same things at Villa Park; make the fans aware of my skills and score goals.”

He also expressed his long-term ambitions: “It’s a dream come true. When I was a little boy I wanted to play in the Champions League. I’ve always thought I want to be there one day and here I am.”
