FAI Cup Preview: Treaty United -v- Kilbarrack United

TREATY UNITED

First Division Treaty United will be looking to avoid an FAI Cup shock on Friday night when they host Kilbarrack United at the Markets Field (kick-off is at 7.45pm).

The Shannonsiders sit outside the play-off positions in the First Division this season but will be confident that they can sail through to the third-round of the competition.

They have history of defeating Leinster Senior League opponents in the cup as well, defeating Usher Celtic 5-0 two years ago.

And Treaty come into Friday’s game off the back of a 1-1 draw against UCD last weekend as they look to replicate their cup success of 2022 when they reached the semi-final of the competition.

KILBARRACK UNITED

Leinster Senior League side outfit Kilbarrack United are still in pre-season, but they will be hoping that they can claim a scalp against Treaty United.

The North Dublin side - managed by Ross Carrig - were unlucky to lose 1-0 against Finn Harps last season at the same stage of the competition.

And they come into the tie following an impressive campaign in the Leinster Senior League top-flight, finishing third after securing promotion from the second tier a year ago.

Kilbarrack will be able to call on the services of former League of Ireland stars Dan Tobin, Daniel Byrne and Alex Centiner. Ireland amateur international striker Deiric Hyland is also in their squad.

“We’ll have a go, express ourselves and give it 100%,” Carrig told extratime.com this week. “If we come up short, we come up short and if we win, happy days.

“I’ve watched a lot of games on LOI TV and there’s probably a bit of sharpness between the two teams playing against quality players, week in, week out.

“They are probably training for three or four nights a week, while we train twice and play on  Friday. That’s the level we are playing at.

“But for the young lads who have signed and want to push themselves onto the League of Ireland, this is an opportunity for them.

“They can put themselves in the shop window and anyone could be watching. That’s what it’s all about and you have to think that way as a player.

“The lads will be looking forward to it.”
