Chelsea has signed Lucy Bronze on a two-year contract, bringing the decorated defender back to England after two successful seasons with FC Barcelona.

Bronze, 32, joins Chelsea with a stellar resume, including three Women’s Super League titles and five UEFA Women’s Champions League victories. She has also earned numerous individual awards and over 400 senior appearances.

"To know I’m a Chelsea player still feels a little bit surreal," Bronze said.

"I’m really excited to be back in England. My family are so excited as well to get to more of my games. I’m excited to be in London, to see what the capital holds and to be at a club that is renowned for winning so many trophies."

Chelsea general manager Paul Green highlighted Bronze’s leadership and versatility, stating, "Lucy is a serial winner with a wealth of experience and a winning mentality. She will be a great fit for our squad."

Bronze’s career spans spells at Sunderland, Liverpool, Everton, and Manchester City, followed by three title-winning seasons with Lyon.

At Barcelona, she added seven more trophies, including two Champions League titles.

Internationally, Bronze has been a key player for England since 2013, contributing to their European Championship win in 2022 and their runner-up finish in the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

Despite her achievements, Bronze remains motivated.

"I absolutely love football. It's what I would have done whether I became a professional or not. And anyone who knows me will say I'm the most competitive person. Playing football at the highest level, I want to do it for as long as possible; winning trophies for as long as possible," she said.

Bronze aims to bring more success to Chelsea and is eager to start this new chapter.

"To be at a club like Chelsea that is renowned for winning trophies, it’s a perfect match-up. That’s what I’ve enjoyed the most in my career. I’m so excited to get going," she said.
