Aodh Dervin signs for Dundalk
Dundalk have announced the signing of midfielder Aodh Dervin on a permanent transfer from Galway United.
The Longford Town Academy graduate scored for the Tribesmen in their 2-0 win at Oriel Park earlier this season but has swapped maroon and white for lilywhite as he returns to Leinster once again.
Having started his career with Longford Town, he signed with Shelbourne for the 2022 season as they returned to the Premier Division. However, he spent time back on loan at Longford before joining Galway United last summer, initially on loan.
The combative midfielder went on to capture the 2023 First Division title with the Tribesme and has featured 16 times in the Premier Division in 2024.
Speaking to his new club media about the move, the 24 year old stated,
“I can remember coming here and watching Dundalk playing people off the park for fun. It’s about trying to get the club back to those levels now and hopefully, I can play a part in that.”
“Hopefully I have more goals to come here!” he said. “When I go on the pitch my work rate and commitment is a given and I hope I can bring a bit of quality, and some more goals, as well.
Dundalk head coach Jon Daly spoke to the same source,
“It’s not very often that you get quality players within the league available in this window so when I heard there was a possibility of getting Aodh in, we tried to get something done as quickly as possible and thankfully we’ve managed to get it over the line”
“He’s got bags of quality. He’s most well known for his work ethic and he has no problem rolling his sleeves up and getting stuck in, but on the other side of it he has real quality on the ball and he can go and play, which is important at Dundalk.”
