Leicester City have confirmed the permanent acquisition of winger Abdul Fatawu from Sporting Lisbon.

The 20-year-old Ghana international, who impressed during his loan spell last season, has signed a five-year contract with the Foxes.

Fatawu made 43 appearances across all competitions, scoring seven goals, including a memorable hat-trick in a 5-0 victory over Southampton.

Fatawu expressed his excitement about the permanent move, stating, “I feel amazing. It’s so good to be back and I’m just back to focus again for next season. I feel so much motivation to be in the Premier League.”

Born in Tamale, Ghana, Fatawu began his senior career with Steadfast FC before a loan move to Dreams FC in October 2021.

His performances led to a switch to Sporting Lisbon in April 2022, where he made his senior debut against Rio Ave and participated in their UEFA Champions League campaign.

Internationally, Fatawu helped the Ghana's Under-20 team win the Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations in 2021, where he was named player of the tournament.

He has also represented Ghana at the senior level 19 times, including appearances in the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations.

Reflecting on his return to Leicester, Fatawu added, “I can’t wait to see [my team-mates]. I’ve missed them so much. They are like a family now.”
