Swansea City have finalised the signing of Eom Ji-sung from Gwangju FC for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder, who can also play on the wing, is Swansea’s second addition this transfer window following Portuguese midfielder Goncalo Franco.

Eom has signed a four-year contract and will wear the number 10 shirt.

Head coach Luke Williams expressed his enthusiasm for the new signing, highlighting Eom’s potential to enhance the team's offensive options.

"We know he brings pace and creativity," Williams stated. "He can play in different positions, and we’ll assess that during training and friendlies."

Williams emphasised the need for greater dynamism in attack.

"We aim to increase our attacking actions both centrally and on the wings. Ji-sung can provide us with more tools and dynamic actions to carry a greater threat."

Eom’s arrival signals Swansea’s intent to explore non-traditional markets for talent. The South Korean international, who scored on his debut against Iceland in 2022, has netted 20 goals in 108 K League matches since his 2021 debut for Gwangju.

Williams praised Eom's ambition and commitment.

"He’s serious about his football and aims to play at the highest level," Williams noted.

"His mindset aligns with our club’s values, and I believe he will adapt well here."

Eom revealed that former Swansea midfielder Ki Sung-yueng encouraged him to join the club.

"Ki contacted me and said Swansea is a good team with supportive coaching staff," Eom shared.

"His advice was invaluable and reassured me about the move."

Eom is excited to contribute to Swansea’s success and follow in Ki’s footsteps.

"I dreamed of emulating players like Ki Sung-yueng and Park Ji-sung," he said.

"I’m honoured to join such a great team and look forward to showing my strengths."

Williams is optimistic about Eom's impact.

"We need to be more threatening in the final third, and I’m confident Ji-sung can help us achieve that," Williams said.

Eom is eager to start. "I can’t believe my debut might be next month," he admitted. "I need to prepare well through training to perform effectively."
