Chelsea sign Renato Veiga from FC Basel

Chelsea have announced the signing of Renato Veiga from FC Basel.

The 20-year-old, who can operate in both defence and midfield, has committed to a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge, with an additional one-year option.

Renato expressed his excitement about joining Chelsea, saying, “I’m absolutely buzzing to be here. This is one of the biggest clubs in England – the biggest for me – and I’m just really excited to get started.”

Veiga is the son of former Cape Verde international, Nelson Veiga. He spent his early years at Sporting's academy in Portugal, where he made his debut for Sporting B in September 2020. 

In January 2023, Veiga moved on loan to Bundesliga side Augsburg, making 13 appearances in Germany before securing a permanent move to Basel.

During the 2023/24 season, he became a regular in Basel’s squad, making 26 appearances across all competitions. He also played a significant role for Portugal Under-21s in their European Championship qualifiers.
