French referee François Letexier to officiate EURO 2024 final thanks to semi-final defeat for Didier Deschamps' French side
The defeat for Didier Deschamps' Les Bleus side in the European Championship semi-final to Spain has opened the door for French referee François Letexier to lead the team of match officials in Sunday’s EURO 2024 final in Berlin's Olympiastadion.
The 35-year-old referee will have two compatriots running the line, with Polishman Szymon Marciniak, who was ref for the 2022 World Cup final, acting as fourth official.
Letexier has already been in charge of one Spanish game in this tournament but it will be the first time in Germany to act as whistler for an England game.
At this year’s European Championship, he refereed three group stage matches, including Spain-Georgia, Denmark-Serbia and Croatia-Albania and acted as a fourth official at the opening match between Germany and Scotland in Munich.
Earlier this year he was the fourth official at the 2024 UEFA Champions League final between Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid at Wembley. He was also the referee of the 2023 UEFA Super Cup between Manchester City and Sevilla in Piraeus, Greece.
Letexier was the referee in charge of Shamrock Rovers’ 1-0 win over Ferencvaros in the 2022 Europa League qualifier in Tallaght.
