Dutch midfielder Donny van de Beek has signed a four-year contract with Girona FC after completing a transfer from Manchester United.

Van de Beek, 27, started his career at Veensche Boys before moving to Ajax's academy in 2014. He quickly rose through the ranks, debuting for Jong Ajax in 2015 and earning a first-team call-up.

He made his first-team debut for Ajax in a Europa League match against Celtic in November 2015 and became a regular the following season, playing 29 games and reaching the Europa League final. In 2018-19, Van de Beek was a key player as Ajax reached the Champions League semi-final.

In September 2020, Van de Beek joined Manchester United, making 62 appearances and scoring on his debut against Crystal Palace. However, his time at United included loan spells at Everton and Eintracht Frankfurt, and he struggled with injuries.

Reflecting on his move, Van de Beek thanked Manchester United fans for their support, saying, "From the moment we arrived, we felt extremely welcome and we are grateful for that. Manchester will always have a special place in our hearts."

Girona FC, who finished third in La Liga and secured a spot in the UEFA Champions League, see Van de Beek as a valuable addition to their midfield.

Van de Beek will return to England soon as Girona have pre-season friendlies lined up against Newcastle United and Bournemouth.
