Former Leicester City defender Shane Flynn completes transfer to Waterford

Waterford have completed the acquisition of defender Shane Flynn following the wing-back’s departure from Leicester City. 

Dubliner Flynn, 22, spent the last six years with Leicester after joining the Foxes in 2018 from Bray Wanderers. 

He was part of Leicester’s match-day squads in the Europa League in 2021 and was also among the subs for their Premier League clash with Brighton at the Amex Stadium in March of that year.

The 22-year-old made 48 appearances for Leicester City’s Premier League 2 side, along with over 20 games in the U18 Premier League.

But his move to the RSC will see him attempt to make his first appearance in senior football after being released by Leicester last month.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be here at Waterford,” he said. “This is my first taste of senior football and I'm really excited for it. 

“I’ve been watching from afar all season, and the way the season has gone for the club just going from strength to strength.”

Boss Keith Long - who knew the player from his days with Dublin schoolboy kingpins St Joseph’s - added: “He’s a player that can play in a number of different positions but predominantly plays on the left. 

“A good technical player with good game intelligence and good quality with his left-foot. His passing range both short and long is very good. 



“He’s a quality player and hopefully he will compliment the rest of the squad and the players we have at the club.”
