Harrogate Town sign Zico Asare from Maidenhead United
Harrogate Town have announced the signing of right back Zico Asare from Maidenhead United.
The 23-year-old defender joins on a permanent deal following an impressive 2023/24 season that saw him earn a call-up to the England C team.
Starting his career at Fulham, Asare represented England at U15 level before moving to Oxford City in 2021. He joined Maidenhead in 2022, where his performances caught the attention of Harrogate Town.
Head of Player Recruitment at Harrogate, Lloyd Kerry, spoke highly of the new signing.
“Zico is athletic, powerful, and hungry for an opportunity in the Football League,” said Kerry.
“He has the profile we’re looking for in a full back and will add competition for places. He’s explosive, can get away from his man, and competes well.”
Kerry added, “We’ve watched him a lot and are excited by what we’ve seen. He’s hungry to do well and we hope to give him the platform to do that. He’s at an age now where he can go and kickstart his career.”
Asare himself expressed enthusiasm about joining Harrogate Town.
“I’m really happy to get the deal done,” he said.
“I had a phone call with the Gaffer, and he told me the ambitions of the club and the way they play, which was in line with how I like to play. I like playing for possession-based teams who enjoy being in control of the ball and that are solid defensively. I take pride in my defending but also enjoy getting forward when I can.”
