Northampton Town have signed attacking midfielder Cameron McGeehan on a two-year contract.

Northern Ireland international McGeehan, 29, captained Norwich City to victory in the FA Youth Cup and enjoyed loan spells with Luton Town and Cambridge United.

He later joined Luton on a permanent basis in 2015, where he made 65 appearances and scored 22 goals.

In 2017, McGeehan signed for Championship club Barnsley, scoring nine times in 61 games and also spending time on loan with Scunthorpe United and Portsmouth.

He moved to Belgian top-flight side Oostende in 2020, scoring seven times in 54 games, before returning to England with Colchester United in 2023.

Last season, he scored 10 goals and provided five assists from midfield for Colchester.

"Cam is another player who really suits our style," said Northampton Town manager Jon Brady.

"He has had a lot of interest in his services this summer from a number of clubs and there has been a fair bit of media speculation about his future, and I am delighted we have been able to bring him to Sixfields."

Brady highlighted McGeehan's attributes, saying, "Cam is an attacking midfielder who is very competitive, he sets the tempo high and he plays with a lot of energy and power. He works well both on and off the ball and we think he is a really good fit for us."

Brady also emphasised McGeehan's experience, adding, "He has the pedigree of playing at a number of different levels and he has a quality about his play that I think supporters will enjoy watching. We believe Cam can be a good signing for us, he played a lot of football last season and he is eager to get started with us."
