As the mid-season merry-go-round starts to gather pace, Sligo Rovers’ talismanic striker, Emma Doherty, has packed her bags and moved down the west coast to join Phil Trill’s title-chasing Galway United.

Doherty came through the underage ranks with the Donegal League before joining The Bit o’ Red in 2022. She announced her goal-scoring credentials in just her second outing with Sligo, scoring the winner in a 2-1 victory over Cork City, and she finished her debut senior season with 11 goals.

She added 13 more in league and cup during 2023 and scored her last goal for Sligo in a 3-2 defeat to her new side, Galway, in March of this year.

Doherty joins a Galway team with several striking options already in place and will be looking to seal the centre forward berth ahead of Aislinn Meaney, Rola Olusola, and Emily Kavanaugh.
