Longford Town claimed their first away league win of the season with a dramatic late win over Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds.

The clash was far from a classic between the Seagulls and the First Division’s basement side, but it matters little to Wayne Groves’ men.

Prior to kick-off, Longford unveiled the signings of Eric Yoro, Carl Lennox, Daniel Norris, Chris Lotefa and Emre Topcu on deals until the end of the season.

But it was one of their stars from earlier this season who pounced to condemn Bray to defeat, with Adam Wixted scoring in the 89th minute.

Longford remain bottom but are now just two points behind ninth-placed Kerry.

Bray stay fifth but will begin looking over their shoulder with Cobh Ramblers closing in on them in the race for the final play-off position.

The Rams also needed a late strike to win by a 1-0 margin away to Treaty United.

Gary Hunt’s side have picked up some good results recently and Jack Larkin’s second half injury time winner means they are now just two points behind Bray in sixth.

Meanwhile, leaders Cork City ran out 3-1 winners over Wexford at Ferrycarrig Park.

Tim Clancy’s men even fell behind against the Slaneysiders with Aaron Dobbs opening the scoring for James Keddy’s troops.

But a sensational brace from teenager Cathal O’Sullivan handed the Leesiders the lead before Jack Doherty struck late on to seal the deal.

City are now 13 points clear at the top of the pile following UCD’s loss at home to Athlone Town.

The Students have slipped back to third place after their 2-1 defeat to their closest play-off rivals.

Dario Castelo’s men were awarded two spot-kicks against the Sky Blues with Dean Ebbe and Kyle Robinson both converting.

In fact, it was an instant impact from Robinson, who officially completed his switch to the Co Westmeath side just hours before their visit to the UCD Bowl.

Former Slgo Rovers youth Niall Holohan scored a consolation for Wille O’Connor’s Students..

And in the night’s other game, Finn Harps defeated strugglers Kerry 1-0 at Finn Park.

Derry City loanee Sean Patton, who only joined the club on a deal until the end of the season on Wednesday, scored the winner.

It was also a costly night for the Kingdom who had attacker Kennedy Amechi and boss Conor McCarthy dismissed after the full-time whistle. Harps coach Kevin McHugh was also shown a red card by referee Glen Geraghty.
