Charlton Athletic sign striker Gassan Ahadme from Ipswich Town
Charlton Athletic have confirmed the signing of striker Gassan Ahadme from Ipswich Town.
The 23-year-old has signed a four-year deal, becoming the Addicks’ sixth signing this summer.
Ahadme scored 13 goals in 23 starts for Cambridge United last season. He has also represented Morocco at youth international level.
Expressing his enthusiasm for joining Charlton, Ahadme said, “Since the first time I spoke with Nathan [Jones], I was impressed with the things that he told me, and especially the energy that I felt from him and the things that he wants to do. It’s a really ambitious project and that’s why I’m excited to be here.”
Manager Nathan Jones commented, “I’m delighted we’ve signed Gassan, he was a real number one target for us. We’ve been pursuing him all summer. We’re delighted to add him; he brings us quality, and a presence and profile of a number nine. His arrival continues the recruitment process that we want with a focus on being categorically stronger as a squad coming out of the transfer window.”
Born in Spain, Ahadme began his career with Club Gimnàstic de Manresa before joining Norwich City in January 2019.
After scoring six goals in 14 Premier League 2 matches for Norwich’s U21s, he had a loan spell with Real Oviedo Vetusta in Spain.
He then spent time on loan at Portsmouth and moved permanently to Burton Albion, where he had a strong start to the 2022/23 season, scoring five goals in eight games.
Ahadme then transferred to Ipswich Town for a six-figure fee but returned to Burton on loan for the second half of the season.
Last season, while on loan at Cambridge United, he netted 13 times in 23 starts.
