Southampton have confirmed the signings of Charlie Taylor from Burnley and Taylor Harwood-Bellis from Manchester City.

Charlie Taylor, an experienced left-back, has joined on a two-year deal after seven years at Burnley, where he made 161 Premier League appearances.

Taylor, 30, began his career at Leeds United, featuring in 104 games and earning the club’s Player of the Year award in the 2015/16 season.

“I’m really excited,” Taylor said. “It just feels like the right fit. Everyone I spoke to about the club have only got great words to say. So excited and can’t wait to get started. The way [Russell Martin] talks about football is the way I like to see it too. Him being the manager was a massive pulling point.”

Manager Russell Martin praised Taylor’s experience and versatility. “Charlie brings a wealth of Premier League experience to the side which will be vital for us. He’s a great character who will fit into what we’re building here. Technically he’s a gifted passer of the ball and has versatility. I’m delighted we’ve brought him in.”

Taylor Harwood-Bellis, 22, has signed a four-year contract after a successful loan spell from Manchester City last season, playing a role in Southampton’s promotion back to the Premier League.

Harwood-Bellis featured 46 times and contributed to six goals, missing just two Championship games.

“It’s no secret how much I enjoyed being here last season, so I’m delighted to officially become a Southampton player ahead of the new season,” Harwood-Bellis said.

“The feeling of bringing this club back to the Premier League and playing in front of these fans week-in and week-out has been amazing. To have the opportunity now to represent this club in the Premier League is really special and I can’t wait to get going and to see all the lads again.”

Russell Martin expressed his enthusiasm for Harwood-Bellis’s permanent move. “We’ve had nothing but good words to say about Taylor since he joined the club last season. Not only with his performances but how he’s fit into the group. He’s ready now for that step up to Premier League football, and we’re really lucky to have an exciting young defender like him at our club.”
