Aston Villa sign Enzo Barrenechea and Samuel Iling-Junior from Juventus
Aston Villa have announced the double signing of Enzo Barrenechea and Samuel Iling-Junior from Juventus.
Barrenechea, a 23-year-old midfielder, started his career in Argentina before moving to Swiss club Sion and then to Juventus in 2020. He spent last season on loan at Frosinone.
Iling-Junior, a 20-year-old London-born defender, began his career at Chelsea's academy before joining Juventus in 2020. Capable of playing anywhere on the left flank, he has also been capped by England at Under-21 level.
Both players bring UEFA Champions League experience, having featured for Juventus during the 2022/23 campaign.
“I’m buzzing,” said Iling-Junior. “It’s exciting and I just want to kick on and show the fans what I can do. The stature of the club – they’re a big club with a lot of history and that’s something that definitely caught my eye.”
Reflecting on his time at Juventus, he added, “I went off to Italy and got my experience there. Now I’m coming back to the Premier League from a different development system and I can bring that into my game here.”
Chief Football Officer Ross Wilson said, “We are all delighted to welcome Enzo and Samuel to Aston Villa. Both players bring quality and experience that will be valuable to our squad.”
Both players are eager to settle in and contribute to Aston Villa’s ambitions. Iling-Junior is particularly looking forward to playing at Villa Park.
“The atmosphere [at Villa Park] is great, so I’m looking forward to that as well as the Champions League nights. It’s been a long time since the club were in the Champions League, so it’s going to be a massive season.”
