Newcastle United have announced the permanent signing of defender Lewis Hall from Chelsea and goalkeeper John Ruddy from Birmingham City.

Lewis Hall, 19, joins the Magpies on a long-term contract after a successful loan spell last season.

Hall made 22 appearances, scoring twice, and debuted in Newcastle’s 8-0 victory over Sheffield United in September 2023.

"I am extremely proud to be able to build on last season and continue my journey at Newcastle United," Hall said.

"The fans, the manager, my teammates, and everyone at the club have made me feel so welcome that I want to repay the faith they've shown in me. Playing in front of the best supporters in the country is extra special for me being a Toon fan."

Hall looks forward to the upcoming season, adding, "I gained a lot of experience last season, and with the squad we have, we'll be looking to push on even further this season. I can't wait to get started."

Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe praised Hall's impact, saying, "Lewis was a very good addition to our squad last season and we have been delighted with his progress and his contribution to the team. As well as being a talented player, he has a great attitude towards the game and his own development."

In addition to Hall, Newcastle United have signed 37-year-old goalkeeper John Ruddy following the expiry of his contract at Birmingham City.

Ruddy has agreed to a one-year deal and brings extensive experience with 551 appearances across 13 clubs, including Everton, Norwich City, and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

"This is a massive club and it's a massive opportunity, so I'm really excited to get started," Ruddy said.

"It's a huge club which is only going one way and to be a part of that, however big or small, is going to be very pleasing and very exciting."

Eddie Howe welcomed Ruddy, highlighting his experience and leadership. "I'm pleased to welcome John to Newcastle United. He has a huge amount of experience and adds a level of support and competition that we need. As well as his abilities on the pitch, he has a strong mentality and he is a leader, which will only benefit the group."
