Drogheda United have announced the signing of midfielder Shane Farrell from Shelbourne and the return of defender Elicha Ahui from Lincoln City.

Shane Farrell, 24, joins Drogheda United after making over 170 appearances for Shelbourne since 2018.

Manager Kevin Doherty expressed his enthusiasm about the new addition.

“Shane’s a player I’ve tried to sign a couple of times. He can play in multiple positions and has proper experience at this level,” Doherty said.

“He knows a lot of the players and he’ll fit right in. He’s exactly the type of player we need.”

Farrell is eager to contribute to his new club.

“I’m very grateful for Kevin getting in contact with me, and hopefully I can pay him and the club back on the pitch for the chance,” he said.

“I’ve played with a few of the lads before. I’m very close with Ryan Brennan, and I had a great relationship with Andy Quinn at Shels.”

He also mentioned the fans' support, adding, “Every time I have played here, the ground has been bouncing with the fans. It’s sold out every week, so I can’t wait.”

In addition to Farrell, Drogheda United have secured the signing of Ahui from Lincoln City on a deal until the end of the 2024 season.

Ahui, 20, returns to the club after spending the first half of the 2023 season on loan at Weavers Park, where he made 21 appearances and scored once.

Manager Kevin Doherty is thrilled to have Ahui back.

“When you know the player really well, it’s an easy decision for me, but we had to work to get him in,” Doherty said.

“He’s been playing in midfield on loan too, and we know what he can do at right-back. It’s great to have him back.”

Ahui is also excited about his return.

“I’m delighted to be back. The manager reached out to me, and as soon as he did, I wanted to come back,” he said.

“I’ve had more experience in men’s football in the year away. It’s about coming in, helping the team as much as I can to move up the table.”
