Portuguese whistler to take charge of Austria and Türkiye last 16 tie
Macdara Ferris reports from Leipzig
Portuguese whistler Artur Soares Dias will take charge of the EURO 2024 round of 16 match between Austria and Türkiye in Leipzig on Tuesday evening.
The 44-year-old was referee earlier this season for the Olympiacos and Fiorentina Europa Conference League final.
He was in charge of France’s 1-0 win over Ireland in Dublin in March last year in the Euro qualifiers.
He was fourth official in Austria’s 1-0 2014 World Cup qualifier win over Ireland in Vienna when David Alaba got a late winner.
He has officiated in the Red Bull Arena previously as he was referee for RB Leipzig’s 3-1 home loss to Man City in the Champions League last October.
Luciano Spalletti did not appreciate a question in the Italian press conference after the Swiss defeat.
