Ben Godfrey swaps Everton for Atalanta

Atalanta have announced the signing of defender Ben Godfrey on a permanent transfer from Everton.

The 26-year-old, who boasts 112 appearances in the Premier League, joins the Nerazzurri following an impressive rise through the ranks of English football.

Starting his career in League Two, Godfrey has played at every level up to the Premier League, accumulating experience in League One (40 matches) and the Championship (36 appearances) before his tenure at Everton.

Godfrey, born in York on January 15, 1998, started his football journey with York City and Middlesbrough's academies, making his professional debut at 17.

During his time at Everton, he earned two England caps and made 93 appearances for the club.

Following a one-year loan at League One's Shrewsbury Town, Godfrey returned to Norwich City, where he became a key figure in the team's defense, helping them secure promotion to the Premier League.

He continued to impress in England's top tier, making 30 appearances in his maiden Premier League season.

On the international stage, Godfrey has represented England at both youth and senior levels, making his senior debut on June 2, 2021, in a friendly match against Austria.
