League Preview: Derry City -v- Drogheda United

DERRY CITY

Derry City boss Ruaidhri Higgins is expecting a tough test against Drogheda United despite their lowly league position.

The Candystripes are just two points behind league leaders Shelbourne and face the team who are bottom of the table.

But past experience with Drogheda means Higgins is not taking his eye off the prize.

It doesn’t seem to matter where or when we play them or where the teams are respectively in the table, they always make things very difficult for us” said the City boss.

“To be honest we’re expecting nothing else on Friday night and we’ve prepared for exactly that.

“We’ve been playing well recently and we all made the best of the short break and we’ll be ready to go on Friday.

“There’s obviously been a couple of personnel changes already with Cameron McJannet going to Grimsby Town and Jacob Davenport coming in.

“I expect there’ll be one or two more over the next few weeks, but obviously we can’t register Jacob until 1st July, so we’re working off much the same squad as before the break.”

DROGHEDA UNITED

Drogheda United will be without Aaron McNally for their clash against Derry City on Friday night.

Kevin Doherty’s side have been with a string of player departures in recent days with news that Oisin Gallagher and Hayden Cann have left the club following their loan stints.

They are also likely to be without Gary Deegan, Darragh Markey and Zishim Bawa who are injury doubts.

But Drogheda will take confidence from their display against Derry the last time they met, drawing 2-2 after trailing heading into the final minutes.

Referee: Robert Harvey.
