Oxford United have announced the permanent signing of Jamie Cumming from Chelsea. The 24-year-old goalkeeper returns to United after a successful loan spell in the latter half of the 2023/24 promotion season.

Cumming made 23 appearances for United in League One and the League One Play-Offs, playing a crucial role in securing a clean sheet in the final against Bolton Wanderers.

Expressing his excitement about rejoining the club, Cumming said, "I’m very excited to be back at Oxford United. It was a joy to be part of last season’s success and I want to achieve great things again."

He continued, "I’m coming back to a place where I feel comfortable and it’s a club that is ambitious and wants to go in the right direction. I learned a lot from my time here and I was desperate for this opportunity to step up and play in the Championship. This is a huge opportunity for me and for the club and I can’t wait to get started."

Head Coach Des Buckingham praised Cumming's impact during his loan spell, stating, "Jamie showed real improvement over his loan spell last season, and he was a very important figure in our successful play-off campaign. He produced some big moments for us, particularly in the semi-final over Peterborough United, and we are excited to have him back at the club."

Ed Waldron, Head of Recruitment, added, "Jamie demonstrated his potential and progression during his loan spell, where he developed into a goalkeeper comfortable performing in some really high-pressured situations. We are delighted to have Jamie join permanently as we believe he can be a valuable contributor again, and one that will continue to improve."
