Swindon Town sign defender Ryan Delaney
Swindon Town have announced the signing of defender Ryan Delaney on a permanent deal.
Delaney, a 27-year-old centre-back from Wexford, Ireland, began his career with his hometown club in 2014. After three successful seasons, he moved to EFL side Burton Albion.
During his time with Burton, Delaney had a loan spell with Cork City, where he scored six goals in 30 league appearances. Cork City won the League of Ireland Premier Division, FAI Cup, and Munster Senior Cup in 2017 during his time there.
Following this, Delaney played for Rochdale, AFC Wimbledon (loan), Bolton, and Morecambe, amassing over 110 appearances in League One. He also achieved promotion with Bolton in the 2020-21 season before joining Morecambe.
Most recently, Delaney played for Newport County in League Two, where he captained the side and contributed one goal and four assists during the 2023/24 season.
Expressing his excitement about joining Swindon Town, Delaney said, "I'm delighted that it's all done now and I'm looking forward to the season ahead. The stature of the club and the head coach's vision really excited me."
He added, "I just want to get out and play in front of the Swindon fans and, hopefully, achieve success this year."
