Shelbourne sign ex-Bohs star Ali Coote from Detroit City
Shelbourne have announced the signing of midfielder Ali Coote from Detroit City, pending international clearance.
Coote will join the team on July 1st, 2024, bringing with him a wealth of experience from both the League of Ireland and European competitions.
The 24-year-old Scottish midfielder, who has made nine appearances for Detroit City this season, will bolster Shelbourne’s midfield. Coote has previously played for Bohs and Waterford in the League of Ireland.
Coote's past performances include a standout role in Bohs' 2021 European campaign, where he scored twice against PAOK Thessaloniki in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
Over his time in the League of Ireland, Coote has amassed 109 appearances, scoring 15 goals and registering 18 assists.
“Delighted to be joining Shelbourne,” Coote said. “I’ve spoken to a few of the boys and they love it here. Damien and his staff have proved to be top level over the past few seasons and that’s an environment I’m excited to be a part of. I’m looking forward to getting started and helping the boys finish the season strongly.”
Shelbourne manager Damien Duff praised the signing, highlighting Coote's potential impact.
“Ali is a wonderful signing and a very dangerous player in the league with a lot of X factor. Ireland is his home from home and he belongs here. He is a player that will excite the fans and influence our games. And most importantly, he will buy into our culture, as it is what we are built on.”
Coote's career began at Dundee United’s academy, where he made his senior debut in the Scottish Premiership. Internationally, he has represented Scotland at various youth levels, earning 18 caps between 2012 and 2015.
