Cheltenham Town sign Arkell Jude-Boyd and former Wrexham captain Luke Young
Cheltenham Town have bolstered their squad with the signings of midfielder Luke Young and defender Arkell Jude-Boyd.
Luke Young, formerly of Wrexham AFC, joins Cheltenham following his departure from the Red Dragons.
The 31-year-old, who captained Wrexham since 2021, played a pivotal role in the club's back-to-back promotions to League One.
Young began his career at Plymouth Argyle, making his first team debut at 17 after nine years in the academy. He then moved to Torquay United in 2014 before joining Wrexham in 2018, where he became a club legend with nearly 250 appearances.
Young is eager to start his new journey with Cheltenham. “I’m excited to take on a new challenge with Cheltenham and to bring my experience to the team,” he said.
Cheltenham manager Michael Flynn expressed his enthusiasm about the new addition. “Luke brings a wealth of experience and leadership to our squad. His track record speaks for itself, and we are thrilled to have him on board,” Flynn commented.
In a separate announcement, Cheltenham Town confirmed the signing of 21-year-old right back Arkell Jude-Boyd, following his release from Queens Park Rangers.
Jude-Boyd had attracted significant interest since leaving QPR and now joins Cheltenham as their fifth summer signing.
Having been with the QPR academy since the age of nine, Jude-Boyd impressed during a loan spell at Torquay United at the end of last season, where he was named the club’s Young Player of the Year after scoring six goals in 17 appearances.
Jude-Boyd is looking forward to his future with Cheltenham. “I’m thrilled to join Cheltenham and to work with the team. My time at Torquay gave me valuable experience, and I’m ready to contribute to the club’s success,” he said.
Manager Michael Flynn praised the young defender. “Arkell is an exciting talent with great potential. His performances at Torquay showed his ability, and we believe he will be a fantastic addition to our squad,” Flynn stated.
