Liverpool to visit Kieran McKenna's Ipswich Town to open new Premier League season

Liverpool will be the first visitors to Portman Road as Ipswich Town make their long-awaited Premier League return on Saturday, August 17th.

The Tractor Boys - managed by Fermanagh’s Kieran McKenna - are back at the top level for the first time in 22 years following successive promotions from League One.

And their prize is a Saturday afternoon clash with Liverpool, who will be managed by the former Feyenoord boss Arne Slot for the first time following Jurgen Klopp’s departure last month.

The season will kick off a day earlier as Friday night football returns to the Premier League with Manchester United hosting Fulham at Old Trafford.

Other eye-catching clashes on Saturday include runners-up Arsenal hosting Wolves and the visit of Brighton, under new boss Fabian Hürzeler, travelling to Goodison Park and Everton.

Newcastle United host Southampton, Nottingham Forest welcome Bournemouth and West Ham are home to Aston Villa in the other games on the opening Saturday.

Sunday sees a mouth-watering clash as Enzo Maresca’s baptism as Chelsea boss sees his host his former mentor Pep Guardiola and Manchester City as they begin their title defence.

Brentford play host to Crystal Palace - who will hope to hang onto Euro 2024 stars Eberechi Eze  and Marc Guéhi - while Championship winners Leicester City welcome Tottenham Hotspur in the Monday night fixture.
