Wrexham AFC announce development updates for StōK Cae Ras

Wrexham AFC have shared updates regarding the ongoing development of the StōK Cae Ras stadium.

First, the club confirmed the extension of the temporary stand, which will accommodate approximately 3,000 seats. This temporary solution will remain until the Kop development begins.

The club and Wrexham Council have reassessed the stadium development plans, particularly the new Kop, to ensure they deliver the best possible fan experience and provide the most value to the community. The aim is to make the stadium a year-round destination, not just a match-day venue, to drive significant economic impact for Wrexham.

The club has secured agreements in principle to purchase the land required for the Kop development's footprint.

In the meantime, Wrexham AFC is working closely with Wrexham Council to review the Grant Funding Agreement to ensure it aligns with the club's future needs.

Wrexham AFC’s stadium is the world's oldest international football stadium still hosting matches. Following the takeover by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, the club began talks with Wrexham University to purchase the freehold of the ground, completing the purchase on 29 June 2022.

In 2022, Wrexham Council began a bid for 'levelling up' funding, a UK Government initiative aimed at increasing public investment outside south-east England. The funding would be used for the construction of a new Kop stand, improved media, broadcast, and floodlight facilities, a car park, and ground works for a convention centre and hotel. These upgrades would allow for the return of competitive Wales national football fixtures.

On 25 May 2023, it was announced that the stadium would be known as STōK Cae Ras, following a sponsorship deal with STōK Cold Brew Coffee, with the sponsorship name officially adopted on 1 July 2023.
