Stockport County welcomes Callum Connolly with a two-year deal
Stockport County have confirmed the signing of Callum Connolly on a two-year contract after his departure from Blackpool.
The 26-year-old, who can operate in various midfield and defence positions, leaves the Seasiders following a stint that saw him make 104 appearances over three years.
Having amassed over 150 appearances in the Championship with teams like Wigan Athletic, Ipswich Town, and Bolton Wanderers, Connolly brings a wealth of experience to the club.
His career highlights include being part of the England team that clinched the 2017 U20 World Cup in South Korea.
"Callum brings fantastic experience and versatility to our group," said Simon Wilson, Director of Football at Stockport County. "Players like Callum are gold dust as they can play many positions to a high level, which will help us over the course of a 50-odd game season."
Connolly's journey began at Everton’s academy at the age of nine, where he progressed to make his Premier League debut. His time at Everton included several loan spells to the Championship, notably scoring twice on his Wigan debut just hours after joining on loan.
Dave Challinor, First-Team Manager, expressed his enthusiasm about the signing: "To sign someone of Callum’s character, versatility and experience, having played over half of his career in the Championship, is a brilliant coup for the club."
Challinor added, "He had a disappointing back end of last season from his perspective and I know how much he’s looking forward to a fresh start and motivation to really kick on and get back to the levels he’s been at earlier in his career."
Connolly's recent season at Blackpool saw him feature 32 times in all competitions, contributing as the team narrowly missed out on the play-off places in League One.
