Stefan Ortega Moreno extends Manchester City contract until 2026

Stefan Ortega Moreno has signed a one-year extension to his Manchester City contract, keeping him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2026.

The German goalkeeper, who joined City in July 2022 from Arminia Bielefeld, has made 34 appearances for the club.

Ortega played a role in City's recent successes, including winning two Premier League titles, one FA Cup, and one Champions League.

Reflecting on his time at City, Ortega said, "I am delighted to be staying at Manchester City for longer. This is a football club that provides players with everything we need to be our best. Every single day I feel motivated and challenged, and I have improved as a goalkeeper since coming here two years ago."

Ortega highlighted his family's happiness in England and his excitement for the future.

"My family are really settled here in England... I love everything about it here. Signing this deal means I can now focus 100% on next season and beyond."

Director of Football Txiki Begiristain emphasised the importance of Ortega's extension, saying, "This is a crucial contract extension for Manchester City. Stefan is the best No.2 goalkeeper we’ve ever had, providing us with quality, stability, and experience. He is very skilled and it’s clear that since his arrival here he has contributed significantly to our success."

Ortega's journey at City began with a clean sheet on his competitive debut against Borussia Dortmund. He has since played a role in City's domestic and European campaigns, including their recent Premier League title win.

Ortega's save against Heung-min Son in City's penultimate Premier League game last season was a pivotal momentin a high-pressure situation.
