Shrewsbury Town sign striker George Lloyd and defender Aristote Nsiala
Shrewsbury Town have confirmed the signing of striker George Lloyd on a two-year deal. In addition to Lloyd, the club have also announced the return of defender Aristote Nsiala on a two-year deal.
Lloyd, who left Cheltenham at the end of the 2023/24 campaign, was pursued by several League One clubs but chose to join Town, reuniting with director of football Micky Moore and head coach Paul Hurst.
Moore played a significant role in Lloyd's development at Cheltenham, and Hurst worked with him during a successful loan spell at Grimsby in 2023.
Paul Hurst expressed his delight at the signing, saying, "I’m delighted to bring George in - he is a player who had a lot of interest so we’re really pleased he chose us. The fact he knows how we work and had a successful loan spell with us at Grimsby I’m sure helped him make that decision."
Hurst praised Lloyd's work ethic and potential, stating, "He is an extremely hard-working forward who brings energy to the team. He is an infectious character and a real team player. But as well as working tirelessly, he is also good in the air - much better than his size perhaps suggests."
Nsiala reunites with Hurst, marking the fourth time the manager has signed the centre-back, having previously worked together at Grimsby and Ipswich.
Hurst spoke highly of Nsiala, saying, "The fact I have signed Toto four times gives you an insight into what I think of him as a player and also as a character. We have got a really good relationship and I think myself and Chris (Doig) will be able to get the best out of him – as we have done previously."
"Toto is a very committed defender who will put his body on the line. He has good athleticism, he is brave and he is good one-v-one. He brings an aerial presence that every team needs and on top of that, he is vocal," Hurst added.
