Gillingham sign winger Aaron Rowe from Huddersfield
Gillingham have made their second signing of the week by bringing in former Huddersfield Town winger Aaron Rowe.
The 23-year-old joins the club after a loan spell at Crewe Alexandra, where he featured in last month’s Sky Bet League 2 Play-Off Final against Crawley Town at Wembley.
Born in Hackney, Rowe began his youth career at Leyton Orient before making his professional debut for Huddersfield in March 2019 in a Premier League match against Bournemouth.
During the 2019-20 season, Rowe had loan spells at Bromley and Boston before returning to Huddersfield, where he made 20 Championship appearances in the following season.
Last August, Rowe signed for Crewe Alexandra on a season-long loan deal, netting five times in 47 appearances across all competitions. He was released by Huddersfield last month.
Gillingham manager Mark Bonner praised Rowe’s versatility and potential, saying, "Aaron has shown last season his ability to put games together and play in a variety of positions. It’s a key period for him to continue developing and improving within our team and use his experiences of League Two last season to hit the ground running this term."
Bonner added, "He is a quick winger, creative in one v one situations and direct in his approach. Aaron helps us change the dynamic of the team and will be relied upon to express himself and get people off their seats. I’m looking forward to helping him achieve his best level with us this season and to help us towards being the team we want to become."
Rowe expressed his excitement about the move, saying, "I am buzzing, when I heard of the interest I was really excited. It's always good to have new challenges in your career. I am a tricky winger and I like to take on players. I like to take a lot of risks, I want to bring goals and assists."
