Rochdale have announced the signing of full-back Finlay Armstrong on a two-year contract following the expiration of his deal with Fleetwood Town.

Armstrong, who made 13 appearances for Rochdale last season while on loan from Fleetwood, expressed his happiness about returning to the club

“I’m delighted to rejoin the club on a permanent basis after my time here on loan last season,” he said.

“I really enjoyed my stint here and everything about the club. From the fanbase, to the group of players, the manager and the backroom staff, it made it an easy decision to return and commit my future here.”

He added, “Hopefully we can be a part of something special in the upcoming season and put the club in a place to be back where it belongs. It’s a pleasure to be back. Up the Dale!”

Armstrong began his career with Burnley, progressing through their Academy before turning professional in the summer of 2022.

During his time at Burnley, he had loan spells at Padiham, Clitheroe, FC United, and Curzon Ashton, steadily climbing the non-league ladder.

The Liverpool-born defender joined Fleetwood permanently last summer, making three appearances for their first team and regularly playing for the development squad.

He joined Rochdale on loan in December, starting nine of his 13 games for McNulty’s side before returning to Fleetwood shortly before the season ended.
