First Division round-up: Wexford and Finn Harps claim fightback draw, while Bray Wanderers ease past Cobh Ramblers

Wexford scored two late goals to salvage a draw against basement First Division side Longford Town on Monday afternoon.

The Slaneysiders were hurtling towards a dismal defeat after their former striker Jordan Adeyemo struck a brace inside the last quarter of the game.

Longford were in command at this point - but they managed to let the three points slip from their grasp.

Adeyemo scored in the 81st and 85th minute, but Wexford rebounded and stunned the visitors.

Former Longford midfielder Aaron Robinson halved the deficit in the 88th minute when he headed home in the 88th minute.

And in the first minute of second half injury time, Cian Curtis levelled matters as Longford failed to clear a throw-in.

Meanwhile, Finn Harps also picked up a late point at home - against Athlone Town.

The Co Donegal side ran out 1-0 winners over James Keddy’s Wexford on Friday.

And it looked as if they were going to be unable to back it up when striker Gideon Tetteh opened the scoring for Athlone Town in the 70th minute.

But Patrick Ferry was on hand to level matters for Harps in the 88th minute.

Bray Wanderers ran out 3-1 winners over Cobh Ramblers at the Carlisle Grounds to move into the play-off positions.

The Seagulls have rallied in the wake of Ian Ryan’s departure last month and have now won two of their last three games - drawing the other against UCD on Friday.

But their success against the Rams was their best performance yet under the interim management team of Lorcan Fitzgerald and Paul Heffernan.

Hary Groome gave them a 29th minute lead, before Shane Griffin doubled their advantage just past the hour mark.

Max Murphy then put the gloss on the win in the 68th minute. David Eguaibor scored a consolation for Gary Hunt’s side ten minutes from time.

Elsewhere, Kerry dismissed Munster rivals Treaty United at Mounthawk Park with a 2-1 win.

The Kingdom have been one of the surprise packages in the First Division this season and have now won three games at home in the league - which is three more than they managed in the First Division last term.

They seized the initiative against the Shannonsiders inside just nine minutes when Kennedy Amechi opened the scoring.

Evan O’Connor’s own-goal doubled Kerry’s lead nine minutes into the second half.

And even a 74th minute Enda Curran penalty could not inspire a late fightback as Kerry held on.

In the clash between the top two at Turner’s Cross, there was frustration as Cork City and UCD played out a 0-0 stalemate

Both teams had a number of chances to get ahead but could not - as Students keeper Kian Moore was the star of the show with a string of top saves.
