Michael Carrick has committed his future to Middlesbrough, signing a new three-year contract as head coach.

Carrick expressed his satisfaction with the new deal, stating, "I’m really happy about it. I’ve always been quite calm about it. I think having that attachment, that trust, and that belief within the club is really important."

He added, "We’ve certainly got that - that’s what still gives me the great feeling that I had when I first walked through the door."

Carrick continued, "It feels like a big step as a headline, as a statement, but really it doesn’t change anything I do or how I approach it. It just carries on what we’re trying to achieve."

Carrick, one of English football's most decorated players, joined Boro in October 2022. In his first season, the club reached the play-offs. Last season, despite dealing with numerous injuries, they made it to the Carabao Cup semi-finals and finished eighth in the league, just four points shy of the top six.

Born on 28 July 1981, Carrick had an illustrious playing career, notably with Manchester United, where he won numerous titles, including the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League. He also had stints at West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Carrick's playing style was known for his passing ability, and he often played as a central midfielder, though he was occasionally utilised as a centre-back.

As a player, Carrick represented England at various levels, earning 34 caps for the senior team and participating in the 2006 and 2010 World Cups.
