Premier Division round-up: Shelbourne draw against Derry City, ten-man Galway United stun Bohemians while Sligo Rovers defeat St Pat’s

Shelbourne stayed top of the Premier Division on Monday night following a late draw against Derry City at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium. 

The Reds trailed heading into the closing stages after Paul McMullan scored the opener for Ruaidhri Higgins’ side. 

But Boyd was sprung off the bench to salvage a point for Damien Duff’s side. 

Meanwhile, ten-man Galway United claimed an impressive 1-0 victory over Bohemians at Dalymount Park. 

The Tribesmen had to play the final half hour of their clash against the Gypsies with a man less after Karl O’Sullivan was dismissed for a second bookable offence. 

But by then they were 1-0 up after Maurice Nugent gave them a 19th minute lead. 

There was a shock at Tallaght Stadium as Shamrock Rovers lost 3-1 to Waterford. 

A Leon Pohls own-goal gave the Blues an early-lead before Johnny Kenny equalised for the Hoops in the eighth minute. 

Dean McMenamy, who was previously on the books of Shamrock Rovers, then scored for Keith Long’s charges to put them ahead once again in the 17th minute. 

Connor Parsons then scored a 53rd minute strike to seal the deal. 

Elsewhere, Sligo Rovers piled the misery on St Patrick’s Atheltic’s season with a 1-0 win at the Showgrounds. 

The Saints have struggled for results away from home this season and were undone again on their travels. 

Ellis Chapman’s first-half goal was the difference between the teams. 

And at Weavers Park, Drogheda United won a feisty Louth derby against Dundalk 2-1. 

Frantz Pierrot’s opener in the early stages of the second half set the tone for a madcap finish. 

Jamie Gullan levelled in the 78th minute but Hayden Cann won it for Drogheda in injury time.

Drogheda United keeper Jethren Barr was dismissed in the 74th minute, while Dundalk netminder George Shelvey saw red after the full-time whistle.
