League Preview: Sligo Rovers -v- St Patrick’s Athletic

SLIGO ROVERS

Sligo Rovers will be looking to return to winning ways when they host St Patrick’s Athletic on Monday evening at the Showgrounds (kick-off is at 5pm). 

But the Bit O’Red will be with Simon Power, Will Fitzgerald, Nando Pijnaker and John Mahon. 

JR Wilson will serve a suspension. Wilson Waweru will be assessed before the game.

And their boss John Russell will be keen for his side to claim a victory after losing 1-0 to Waterford on Friday night.

“Friday was hugely frustrating for us and our supporters,” Russell said. We do not like losing games and the players were all hurting in the dressing room afterwards as they knew we had enough chances to win the game.

“Monday gives us an opportunity in front of our home fans to get a result and build some momentum again. We need everyone in the ground to get right behind us.” 

ST PATRICK’S ATHLETIC

Jon Daly has called on his Saints to claim a second win of the weekend when they play Sligo Rovers. 

The Athletic saw off Drogheda United on Friday night and will be hopeful of repeating the trick against the Bit O’Red.

“We need to start picking up results on the road,” Daly explained. “Our away form hasn’t been to the levels we would have liked. 

“It’s important that when we go away from home, we try to pick up as many points as we possibly can. 

“Sligo is a tough venue for us and always has been. We’re looking forward to the game and it would be nice to come out of this weekend with six points.”
