WLOI Preview: Bohemians -v- Treaty United

The Bohemian women have class - of that there can be no doubt.

Two moments of brilliance under a sheet of rain against the lilacs and their 4-0 Avenir All-Island Cup demolition of the Lisburn ladies are a testament to the threat they pose in attack.

Yet despite the talent and flair that threads throughout the squad, the young Gypsies have struggled to take root as a unit and have lost three games across all competitions on the bounce.

To add perspective to Bohs three League defeats this campaign, their victors now sit in first and second place respectively, unblemished league leaders Galway United beating the Dublin 7 outfit 4 goals to nil while Cup winners Athlone Town snatched a 1-0 victory.

Ken Kiernan took the helm of this senior Bohs women’s side at the tail end of 2023 with a proven track record of success - most notably the 35 wins and four draws secured across 41 competitive games with the Shelbourne U17s League and Cup double winners.

With Kiernan’s eye for talent and his coaching acumen, this young squad could prove to be a formidable force at Dalymount, former Hoops Tiegan Ruddy and Alannah McEvoy just two of the individuals who could help to turn their season on its head.

Until then the women in red and black face no small test in Treaty United who are in the midst of a five game unbeaten run.

Kiernan will undoubtedly look to tap into Aoibhe Fleming, Sarah Power and Orlagh Fitzpatricks in-house knowledge of their opposition given they lined out in 2023 for the royal blue and red of the visitors.

TREATY UNITED

Treaty United will line out at Dalymount Park with an aura of self-assuredness, Dominic Foley’s side journeying to Phibsborough off the back of a five-game unbeaten run.

The Shannonsiders held Shamrock Rovers to two consecutive draws both at home and away in what could be a real statement of intent from the Limerick women, while a 2-0 win away to Crusaders in the Avenir Sports All-Island Cup saw them secure their second win of the season and their third clean sheet.

Caleigh Boeckx and Ayaka Ikeza could line out for the Garryowen women in the shadow of St Peter’s Church, both players making an appearance on the bench for Dominic Foley's sides nil all draw against Sligo Rovers at the Markets Field.

With seven goals across five fixtures the Canadian Cavalry will look to tap into their attacking prowess, Erin Van Dolder, Kayla Kyle, Delana Friesen and Caleigh Boeckx posing a significant threat.

Foley too will be well versed in the local talent that courses through the visitors squad,  Ireland Under 17s skipper Katie Lawlee, Cara Griffin and Hannah Saidi, who netted an impressive away goal at Tallaght Stadium. making a formidable triad.

Today could be the day that Bohemians turn a run of disappointing results on their head.

The Gypsies have wrangled the upper hand across seven of the ten fixtures that these sides have battled, Treaty winning three while Bohemians have since come out on top with six consecutive wins and five clean sheets.

The Dalymount diamonds will however need to account for the transformation at Garryowen from the upper echelons to the pitch and look to shut this fixture down before Foley’s side can establish any real momentum.
