Ireland centurion Niamh Fahey is nearing a return for Liverpool but is set to miss out on Saturday’s meeting with Bristol City.

The Reds captain is struggling with a calf strain, having missed much of the season so far - including internationals - with ongoing niggles.

Galway native Fahey, 36, will miss out along with English defender Jasmine Matthews and Dutch striker Shanice van de Sanden.

“Jas and Niamh will be back in team training next week. Shanice isn’t available. Apart from that, everyone else is,” said Pool coach Matt Beard.

“[The international break] has allowed another couple more weeks of training into Taylor Hinds. We’ve got Jas and Niamh that will be back in team training probably next week.

“So, that time has enabled us to get the players that were injured back in and around the squad and being available for selection.”

Fahey's fellow Irish international, the former Shelbourne striker Leanne Kiernan, is available for selection after missing a year with an ankle injury.
