Henderson not getting carried away
Waterford United manager Stephen Henderson is keeping his feet firmly
on the ground despite his side making it seven wins from eight in the
league so far this season.
Goals from Vinny Sullivan and Kevin Murray helped the Blues to a 2-0 win against Finn Harps and leave them two points clear at the top of the table
“So far so good, buts that all, a hell of a long way to go”, Henderson told Extratime. It’s a good start, but it’s still only a start. Seven wins out of eight isn’t bad in anyone’s book.”
“It was a great win. Finn Harps are a good side, a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde this season, you don’t know what you’re going to get, but I think we got the good side of them tonight.
Stephen Henderson started the game with three regular central midfield players in O’Callaghan, Dunphy and McCarthy, but he was happy with how each performed.
“[Harps] played a system that again we had to get used to, smothering the midfield and closing down the full backs, but I thought we adapted very well. The midfield did really well tonight. We’ve some very good ball players in the middle of the park.”
George O’Callaghan starred in the game and his manager was quick to praise the former Cork City midfielder.
“I think if anyone ever questioned George O’Callaghan’s commitment, I think they will have to rethink those thoughts because George ran himself into the ground”, he said.
“We felt we needed him, because teams are setting out differently against us. We felt we needed a player to unlock and be comfortable and strong on the ball and not afraid to take it and that’s what George does, as does Paul and Gary, but George has a bit of experience and he showed it there tonight and it would have been a wonderful occasion of that ball had of gone into the top corner”, Henderson concluded.
