Wharton called into Lee Carsley's England under 21 squad

Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton has been called up to the England under-21 squad for the first time.

Wharton links up with Lee Carsley’s squad having impressed at under-20 level for England. The news of the Palace player’s inclusion comes after Chelsea’s Chukwuemeka departed the squad after the Azerbaijan game.

England now go on to face Luxembourg at Bolton Wanderers’ stadium on Tuesday with a win required to give them a shot at qualifying for the UEFA EURO under 21 Championship finals next year.

Ukraine currently lead the group, England are on equal points but sit behind them on head-to-head record.
