Women’s Champions League Wrap: Chelsea cruise to 3-0 win over Ajax as Lyon take 2-1 lead into second leg against Benfica
A Sjoeke Nüsken brace has put Chelsea in a commanding lead over Ajax in their Women’s Champions League quarter-final.
It is the first time a Dutch side has made this stage of the competition in 17 seasons but it doesn’t look like they will go much further.
The Blues won 3-0 in the Johan Cruijff ArenA in Amsterdam in Tuesday’s first leg with Nüsken’s double coming after Lauren James scored a 19th minute opener.
Chelse boss Emma Hayes speaking to UEFA.com hailed her team’s display: “I thought it was a really professional performance from the team.
"We defended solidly, as we have been doing.
"(It was an) outstanding performance from (Kadeisha) Buchanan and Nüsken in particular, but the team as a whole, you could see they were confident and delighted to get the third goal. “
In Tuesday’s other quarter-final first leg, eight time Champions League winners Lyon beat Benfica 2-1 in Lisbon.
The home side, playing in their first ever quarter-final, took a lead into half time thanks to a Andreia Faria goal before strikers from Delphine Cascarino and Sara Dabritz turned the tie around.
Wednesday night’s quarter-finals will see Hacken host Paris Saint-Germain with Brann at home to Barcelona.
