First Division round-up: Cork City go top after seeing off Longford Town as Cobh Ramblers and Wexford win

Cork City went top of the First Division on goal difference last night thanks to a routine 2-0 victory over Longford Town.

The Red and Black started the game the better of the two and were perhaps unfortunate not to have taken the lead through Bastien Hery.

But City took charge soon after that and eventually scored twice in the second half.

Although, they required two defensive errors from the hosts to pounce.

The first of which saw Evan McLaughlin convert after Jamie Egan's misplaced clearance fell kindly into his path.

And the second arrived following a Longford Town corner-kick.

The Leesiders cleared the set-piece and latched on a slip from Kyle O'Connor. 

Cathal O'Sullivan and Jack Doherty both raced in on goal together, with Doherty the one to roll the ball into an empty net. 



Meanwhile, Finn Harps' unbeaten start to the season came to a halt.

The Co Donegal side were defeated by Cobh Ramblers at Finn Park.

And the only goal of the game arrived in the 23rd minute as Jack Larkin netted for Gary Hunt's troops.

Wexford also secured their first win of the season with a 2-1 victory over UCD.

The Students were second best throughout vast swathes of the game and fell 2-0 behind following strikes from Kian Corbally and Sean McHale.



Eanna Clancy netted a consolation for Willie O'Connor's side who must contend without the services of Ronan Finn for two months with a knee injury.

Elsewhere, Kerry were denied a win against Athlone Town at Lissywoolen.

The Kingdom took a second-half lead through former Stockport County attacker Daniel Okwute but were pegged back by a Dylan Hand equaliser 20 minutes from time.

And at the Markets Field, Bray Wanderers came from 2-0 down to salvage a point against Treaty United.

Tommy Barrett's Shannonsiders were on course to win with goals from Thomas Considine and Mark Walsh.

But the Seagulls hit back with Shane Griffin's spot-kick and a Thomas Morgan goal securing the point.
