Bohemians have confirmed that they will be supporting Gareth McGlynn's appeal against his two-month ban for betting on games last year.

The Independent Disciplinary Committee of the FAI issued the lengthy suspension on the midfielder after he admitted to betting on games whilst playing for Derry City.

While he never bet on his own team, McGlynn was still handed a ban that is double the amount of games that Gary Dempsey was originally banned for when he bet on games as a St Patrick's Athletic player.

McGlynn released a statement through the PFAI to announce that he would be appealing the decision and he has now been backed in that pursuit by his club.

"Bohemian FC is supporting Gareth Mc Glynn’s appeal against the two-month ban handed down this week by the FAI’s Disciplinary Committee," read a club statement.

"The club is sending a letter tomorrow [Thursday 22 April] to the Disciplinary Control Unit of the FAI outlining its concerns regarding the unfairness of the sanction imposed on Gareth McGlynn in the light of decisions made in more serious recent cases.

"Bohemian FC is supporting its player’s appeal on the basis of precedent and the impact of the severe punishment on Gareth McGlynn, on his earnings, his career and his reputation."
