Bohs fans banned from Boyneside trip after pyro incident in Inchicore
Bohemians have been hit with a supporter ban for their next League of Ireland game.
The FAI have confirmed that following the incident last Friday when a flare was thrown onto the pitch in the game between St. Pats and Bohemians hitting a Bohs player ‘an Independent Disciplinary Committee of the FAI has imposed a ban on Bohemian FC spectators from attending their next away fixture versus Drogheda United FC on 4 March 2024 at Weavers Park.’
Cian Byrne was the player hit with the flare and he required medical attention to his arm but was able to play on after the game resumed after a lengthy delay during which a number of flares were removed from the Richmond Park pitch.
Bohemians issued a statement ahead of confirmation of the one match supporter ban saying that the club ‘condemns unequivocally the actions of individuals within our support base during Friday’s SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division game away against St Patrick’s Athletic.
‘These incidents, when multiple flares were thrown onto the pitch at the start of the second half, represented an unacceptable and reckless escalation of behaviour that endangered the safety of players from both teams and the safety of our own supporters.’
Bohs are reviewing video and images of the incidents and stated that ‘anyone identified as throwing flares will be indefinitely banned from Bohemians games.’
Last season after another pyrotechnic incident – this time at in Oriel Park - Drogheda United supporters were banned from travelling to Tallaght for a league game after the referee’s assistant was struck by a flare.
