The Republic of Ireland international equalised for Preston North End on Saturday afternoon.

Robbie Brady netted his first goal for Preston against rivals Blackburn Rovers as both sides had to settle for a point in the Championship on Saturday.

The Dubliner started for The Lilywhites in midfield but the home side were down 1-0 after seven minutes as Republic of Ireland hopeful Sammie Szmodics opened the scoring for Rovers with his 22nd goal of the season.

However, Brady justified his selection in the team when he collected the poor clearance from his corner just outside the penalty area and rifled his shot into the roof of the net just before half time to the delight of the Preston fans.

The 32-year-old has become the forgotten man for Ireland after only featuring six times in an Irish jersey since 2021, his last cap against Norway in a friendly in November 2022.

Injuries and a loss of form has heavily hampered Brady’s career after looking like the breakout star after Euro 2016 eight years ago.

Brady’s quality strike was a timely reminder that there’s still a player that Ireland can call upon in 2024.
