League Preview: Treaty United -v- Cobh Ramblers
TREATY UNITED
Treaty United welcome Cobh Ramblers to the Market’s Field on Friday night as they look to start the season with a win (kick-off is at 7.45pm).
It has been an off-season of change on Shannonside with Marc Ludden, Success Edogun, Dean George, Jordan Tallon and Dean O’Shea all leaving. 4
But they have at least been able to add First Division winning experience in Yoyo Mahdy, Callum McNamara, Evan O’Connor and David Tarmey to their squad.
There has also been a change of ownership at the club - with former Ireland women’s international boss Ciara McCormack taking over as CEO and co-owner.
Speaking ahead of the new season last week, boss Tommy Barrett stressed his side will want to continue their recent rise by chasing a play-off position yet again.
“Two or three teams will want to win the league and the rest want to get into the playoffs so we’ll be one of those,” he explained.
“It's always your aim to win as many matches and we’d love to win the league if we could. But you know it's unlikely. But you know you want to win every game.
“If you can go out and be competitive in every game, let’s see where it takes you. I don't want to limit us either. We want to win every game, no matter what. Is it realistic?
“Probably not. But we are going to try to win every game.”
COBH RAMBLERS
Cobh Ramblers boss Gary Hunt will be pleased that he has been able to add to his squad this week ahead of their league opener against Treaty United.
Key men from last season such as Charlie Lyons, Lee Steacy and Jack Doherty have all departed.
But the Rams have been bolstered with the arrivals of Beineon O’Brien Whitmarsh from Longford Town, while Cian Browne has opted to stay at the club after an impressive 2023.
Ramblers have also added Dan McKay from Wellington Phoenix’s academy in New Zealand while Nolan Evers has joined from the United States collegiate system.
The defender has been confirmed as Rams’ final signing of the window.
Meanwhile, Jason Abbott has been installed as captain, with Pierce Phillips vice-skipper for the season ahead.
Referee: Ray Matthews.
