The former U-21 Republic of Ireland international opened his account for his new club on Wednesday night.

Finn Azaz is off the mark for Middlesbrough after the midfielder scored with a long range against Preston North End.

The 23-year-old sealed a move to Teeside after impressing on loan at Plymouth Argle the last 18 months. Azaz spent the first half of the season on loan at Plymouth where he played 26 times and scored 7 goals in the Championship.

His form saw Boro splash out a reported £2.5 million fee for the midfielder.

Last night was his fifth appearance for his new club, with his first strike for the club being a stunning goal from distance.

Despite only featuring once for the U-21’s, Azaz will be on the radar of the next Republic of Ireland manager having displayed an eye for goal the past two years.

Elsewhere in the Championship, Republic of Ireland international Mikey Johnston has found form for new club West Brom.
